Dolley Madison was married to our 4th President James Madison. When he was Secretary of State for President Jefferson, Dolley helped the President host parties because he didn't have a wife to host them. She was friendly and hospitable. Everyone liked her and wanted to go to her parties.
When she was a little girl she wore dark clothes because she was a Quaker. But when she got married to James Madison, she started wearing colorful dresses and fancy turbans with feathers in them.
During the War of 1812 she saved a painting of George Washington before the British burned the President's House. She was one of the last people to leave the capital to go to safety.
Hey I read that in my history book. Oh, and I got a book all about her! It's nice to see you're blogging again! I love you and miss you so much Julie!
